Shades of Summer

Face with frame-new-550

Title:  Shade of Summer
The Design: The design is based on the pagan motif of a partial face surrounded by greenery that symbolizes the hidden face of Nature from whence all abundance comes. The rich palette evokes the myriad shades of green we find in the garden in the summertime. Using varied weights and fiber of thread, as well as different techniques of lace making: Honiton, Finnish Pictorial, Russian and Cluny, lace artist Laura Friesel expresses the depth and texture of summer foliage.

The Technique: Bobbin Lace dates from the 15th century and employs threads wrapped
